The new World Cup stadium in Cape Town is preparing for its first public event.

Anyone who has booked holidays to Cape Town next week may hear some cheering coming from the Green Point Stadium in the city.

On January 23rd, the venue will host its first ever football match, a game between local teams Ajax Cape Town and Santos.

In a bid to test its new sporting ground, Cape Town Tourism has sold 20,000 tickets for the event and is encouraging locals to support the development.

The tourism board in the city is running a campaign called Live it! Love it! LOUDER! to prepare for the World Cup, which will kick off in South Africa on June 11th this year.

It appears that any fans travelling to the tournament this summer can expect a warm welcome.

Lianne Burton, Cape Town Tourism’s marketing destination manager, commented: “We want the citizens of Cape Town to become irrepressibly filled with pride, excitement and a real willingness to support the biggest sporting event in South Africa’s history.”
