Taking a holiday to South Africa has been recommended as something that everyone should do at least once in their life.

Richard Tobias, writing for Here is the City magazine, called the country “the birthplace of mankind” and said it is unparalleled anywhere else in the world.

He pointed out that South Africa offers excellent value for a long haul destination at present since the value of the real has fallen against the pound, plus there is plenty to do.

Mr Tobias stayed in Cape Town recently and said that anyone doing the same should visit the Kirstenborsch Botanical Gardens, which are home to more than 2,500 different species and allow people to “feel at one with nature”.

However, the writer said there was one problem with his holiday in Cape Town – that he was spoilt for choice when it came to what to see next.

Cape Town has been particularly popular with travel writers of late – last month, Candis magazine called it “a city like no other”.
