Goa is not just about luxury hotels and beaches, it can also be a place of escape, one travel writer has said.

Those looking for something different from their holidays to Goa may find a suitable option in the form of a spa break.

Jane Dunford wrote for the Observer of the seven days she spent on retreat in the Indian destination and said while it might not fit some people’s idea of a vacation – such as seeing the sights and enjoying lots of the local cuisine – it may be precisely what others are after.

“If you want to escape from the world for a while and come back refreshed with some helpful health tips, it could be for you,” she commented.

Ms Dunford stayed at the Beach House, a wellness retreat situated on Sernabatim beach towards the south of the state, which offers life coaching and nutritional advice alongside health and cleansing treatments.

She suggested it stood out as being different in Goa, which is known for its luxury spa hotels and also has a reputation for being an excellent party destination.

Goa Tourism.co.uk credits the state’s “magnificent scenic beauty” and “architectural splendours” with making it popular among holidaymakers from around the globe.
