Kite flying, river cruises and special bus trips are all part of this year’s Kolkata Tourism Festival.

Yesterday (October 15th) saw hundreds of colourful kites hang above the city, while the locals and tourists could join in, the main attraction was the skills of the world’s best flyers.

The Tourism Festival, which runs along side the Durga pujas, will also allow visitors to have a river cruise to see some of Kolkata’s famous sites including the  Botanical Gardens and the Dakshineshwar Kali temple.

Rachpal Singh, tourism minister, said: “The river cruises will start from Babughat [in central Kolkata]. Each cruise will last for two hours. Special jetties have been built at the points where these cruises will commence.”

Anyone booking flights to Kolkata for the pujas will also find that special buses have been put on for them.

The city’s leading marquees will be on the routes, with trips ranging from one day to four days
