More filmmakers are discovering the charms of Kolkata.

Kolkata has been hailed as a great place for filmmakers and tourists alike.

According to Bollywood director Sujoy Ghosh, the location of a film really helps to sell the story to the audience and he believes that Kolkata has a lot of nuances waiting to be explored.

“It’s great that they are now discovering their own country, [especially] Kolkata. It’s really encouraging because it is good for tourism,” he told DNA India.

Bollywood is the world’s biggest film industry and has traditionally been housed in Mumbai and Delhi, but since Gosh filmed Kahaani in Kolkata it is becoming an increasingly popular location.

Fellow filmmaker Anurag Basu – whose works include Barfi! – added that the city has an old world charm about it.

He explained that while it is a very modern metropolis in many ways, people can still find parts that are “frozen in time” and said it has many unique attractions.
