India has been given a top award at an international ceremony, beating competition from many other high profile destinations.

There could be more people planning to take flights to India in the coming months after the country was given a top award at the recent World Travel Awards.

The country was given the honour of world’s best tourism brand at the prestigious ceremony, beating off stiff competition from the likes of New York, London and Cape Town to scoop the coveted title.

World Travel Awards are highly regarded among the leisure and tourism sector, with organisations and destinations from around the globe battling it out to be recognised for the services they offer visitors.

Considered the Oscars of the travel industry, this year’s glittering ceremony was held in Doha.

There could be a rise in the number of people planning to head on flights to India to spend time in Goa after the many attributes of the location were promoted by Lonely Planet author Joe Bindloss.

He explained it offers sun and sea, as well as something a little different with its touch of India culture.
