Rio Ferdinand has become the latest sports star to visit Dubai.

Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand was a special guest of Dubai’s Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) last weekend.

The footballer handed over a signed t-shirt to the executive director of business tourism within the DTCM Hamad M Bin Mejren.

Ferdinand was on a break from his playing duties in Manchester while the international scene took centre stage and Mr Mejren believes that his visit is another example of how important Dubai is becoming on the global sports scene.

“The emirate hosts outstanding and famous players and clubs from all over the world and sports tourism plays an important role in attracting tourists to the country,” he remarked.

In the past, AC Milan have taken part in the emirate’s Football Challenge Championship and anyone booking flights to Dubai for next year can watch marathons, the Dubai Desert Classic and top quality horse racing.
