New figures suggest that Dubai is quickly becoming one of the world’s favourite destinations.
The Dubai Commerce and Tourism Development Authority showed a seven per cent rise in tourism over the first five months of the year. In particular, there has been an increase in travellers coming from Europe to the Gulf.
It is estimated that 46 per cent of tourists are from European countries, compared to 25 per cent Gulf Cooperation Council travellers and around 14 per cent coming from Asia.
Data also showed a three per cent rise in hotel occupancy rates compared to the first three months of 2009.
“The total number of guests staying in the emirate’s hotels and hotel apartments reached 637,390, a seven per cent increase compared to the 594,105 guests reported for the same period in 2009,” said the Dubai Commerce and Tourism Development Authority.
Dubai has a largely dry climate, with daily temperatures ranging from 24.5C in January to 41C in July.
