Those planning a family holiday to Dubai, South Africa or any other destination are urged to book their flights and accommodation in advance, a currency provider has said.

“Families probably are better off planning in advance so they can ensure the accommodation is suitable for their needs,” explained Rupert Lee-Browne, chief executive of Caxton FX.

Booking in advance is also a good option if travellers are planning to visit a long-haul destination, added Stephen Heath, chief executive of FairFX.

However, individuals and young couples that are able to be more flexible may be able to find a cheap last-minute deal, especially if they are willing to consider going to any destination, continued Mr Lee-Browne.

Media relations managers at Santander credit cards Siobhan O’Shea and Louisa Dreja reminded travellers that there is no point in trying to save money on their travel if they end up spending more on things such as replacing essential items that are forgotten when packing.

They advised people getting ready to jet off on their holidays to budget for smaller costs and make sure they are organised when packing their suitcases.

People thinking about taking a holiday in South Africa this summer may wish to plan a trip to the Stellenbosch Wine Festival into their itinerary, with some 500 different varieties of wines and lots of food on offer.
