If you have booked a flight to India, Dubai, Thailand or another sizzling destination, it is important to remember to be sun-safe, a dermatology association has said.
Those heading to sunny destinations such as a holiday to Dubai have been given some advice to stay safe in the sun.
According to Rebecca Freeman from the British Association of Dermatologists, it is not necessary to avoid the sun all year round.
“Small amounts of sunshine are beneficial,” she explained, although she stressed that it was important for holidaymakers not to over-expose themselves to the sun’s rays.
Ms Freeman suggested that between the hours of 11am and 3pm, people should spend more time in the shade, as the sun is at its most intense.
Wearing protective clothing such as UV sunglasses, a T-shirt and a hat will also help cover areas that are the most vulnerable.
She also advised choosing a sunscreen that has a sun protection factor of at least 30 and children and those with paler skin should opt for factor 50.
“Taking a few steps when out and about in the summer sun or when on a sunshine holiday will help to protect you,” she concluded.
Some 40 per cent of British travellers ignore sun safety advice when on holiday, according to HolidayExtras.com.
Research also revealed that 15 per cent believe sun burn to be part and parcel of the travel experience.
