There will soon be another way to get around Sydney as plans for a new transport system are announced.

People on flights to Sydney could find the city is easier to navigate than ever before after it was announced a new rail system is to be created in the city.

A new North Western Rail Link is to be established in the city in a project worth AU$8 million (£5.1 million).

The project will see the creation of two new stations and the track will be built along the back fences of homes in residential areas.

However, the project will not be ready to use for some time yet, as it is predicted to be 2020 before it is up and running.

Transport minister Gladys Berejiklian said: “The main advantage is it doesn’t disrupt the community on the ground. It means you don’t have to tear up roads and you can have continuity amongst the suburbs.”

People taking flights to Sydney in time for the city’s new year celebrations could be among those who hear a song which has been specially composed for the event, which will be played at the famous Sydney Harbour Bridge firework display.
