Anyone up for a giggle in the sunshine this April may wish to consider booking flights to Melbourne.

Tourism Victoria has announced that the city’s International Comedy Festival is set to take place between the 1st and 16th of the month and that it promises to be a world-class attraction.

The event will feature more than 1,200 performers in the fields of stand-up, film and visual arts – and it costs only the equivalent of around £10.

It first launched in 1987 and is one of Australia’s most popular events. However, with some 455,000 people in attendance in 2008, anyone hoping to go this year may wish to get their flights to Australia booked soon.

The organisers state that the festival is on a par with the Edinburgh Fringe in terms of quality, adding that “serious giggling is on the programme”.
