Australian carrier Qantas is set to offer daily A380 services between London and Sydney by November.
Designed with long-haul flights in mind, the Airbus A380 seats 525 passengers. Currently, Qantas offers three services on the aircraft between Sydney and London per week, but this will increase to five a week in August when a fourth A380 aircraft is delivered next month.
By November, two additional aircraft will have been delivered, which means seven A380 services will fly each week from Sydney to London.
The additional aircraft will also increase the number of flights Qantas offers between Sydney and Los Angeles. From August 6th, it will offer four, rather than three, weekly services between the cities.
By November, it will also offer daily flights on the Sydney-LA route and add an additional A380 flight on the Melbourne-LA route for a total of three per week.
The move was described as “pre-emptive” by Australian newspaper The Age, as it could signal an “all-out battle” for passengers among Qantas, V Australia, United Airlines and Delta Airlines.
