The first events have taken place in the Perth 2011 ISAF Sailing World Championships sailing event.

Fans of sailing may have been on flights to Perth recently as the city begins the racing at its Perth 2011 ISAF Sailing World Championships event.

The first day of the event on December 8th 2011 saw a moderate sea breeze, which the International Sailing Federation stated offered almost perfect conditions.

In the Men’s 470 the Australian team of Mat Belcher and Malcolm Page had the crowd in high spirits, as the spectators chanted each time they passed by.

The enthusiasm of the viewers helped to spur the pair on to victory, as they piped French duo Charbonnier and Jeremie Mion into second place.

“With two races tomorrow we can’t take our foot off the accelerator just yet,” Page said.

More people could be heading in flights to Perth in the future, as Qantas has announced plans to increase the capacity of journeys heading to many rural areas around the country in time for the summer months.
