Qantas drops ‘I still call Australia home’
Australian airline Qantas has dropped its iconic “I still call Australia home” tagline and is embarking on a multi-million dollar marketing campaign under the banner “You’re the reason we fly”.
As part of the social media-focussed strategy it is offering Australians the chance to have their names emblazoned on the side of two of its planes: an international Airbus A380 and a domestic Boeing 737.
People also have the chance to submit a photo so that they can appear in a new TV commercial, a personalised shareable webpage and other media.
For every person who takes part, the airline will donate AUD $5 (£3.26) to Mission Australia, up to a maximum of AUD $100,000.
“We’re hoping we can get around 1,600 names on the A380,” explained Qantas’ executive manager of marketing Lewis Pullen in an interview with Australian Business Traveller.
“Over the next two weeks, we’re asking Australians to upload their photo and name … or by using a specially developed mobile phone or Facebook app.”
