Virgin Australia has announced the introduction of a series of new in-flight entertainment options for its passengers.

Travellers on flights to Melbourne and other areas with Virgin Australia will soon be able to take advantage of a new in-flight entertainment system which is being introduced by the airline.

Virgin has announced it is joining forces with Lufthansa Systems to develop an entertainment system that utilises Wi-Fi technology which is delivered to personal, hand-held devices.

The two companies have agreed to produce and install the initial systems, known as BoardConnect, by mid-2012.

“This system, considered to be at the leading edge of inflight entertainment technology, provides guests with a wide range of products including video and audio streaming delivered on demand,” explained Martin Daley, group executive for product and guest services with the airline.

More people could be planning to take flights to Melbourne and other locations with Virgin Australia in the coming months after the carrier was named as the best for trips to Australia and New Zealand by readers of Global Traveller USA magazine.
