A man who people claim to be the oldest on the planet is set to celebrate his birthday in Thailand next week, it has been reported.

Those who have booked cheap holidays in Thailand may be intrigued by the story of one of the country’s residents, who is apparently the oldest man alive.

According to the birth certificate of Luang Pu Supha, which has been located by the Thai government, he was born on September 17th, 1896, reports the Phuket Gazette.

This would make him four days older than American Walter Breuning, the current holder of the Guinness World Record’s world’s oldest man title.

If the certificate is correct, the centenarian, who lives in Phuket, will celebrate his 113th birthday.

As a result, Thanapong Korudom, who is president of the Wat Luang Pu Supha committee, has invited representatives from Guinness World Records to travel to Phuket and confirm that the Buddhist monk is the world’s oldest man.

One hotspot for centenarians is the Japanese island of Okinawa, which boasts the largest number of people over the age of 100 than any other location in the world.
