One national newspaper has offered some advice to travellers about how to stretch their holiday cash.
Avoiding buying currency at airports and withdrawing money on your card while away are just two of the tips offered by one national newspaper.
The Daily Mail has provided tourists jetting off on cheap flights to Thailand and other destinations closer to home with some advice about how to make their money go further.
At the top of the list is buying currency online, rather than getting it from the airport where you “will get a poor exchange rate” and “pay steep commission charges”.
Meanwhile, shopping around for the credit cards offering the best deals on foreign exchange fees is advisable before you go.
Journalist Melanie Wright pointed out that some providers – notably Santander, Sage and the Post Office – do not charge their customers for using credit cards abroad, while others add a fee of between 2.75 and 2.99 per cent to each transaction.
The Daily Telegraph has also offered some hints about how to have a cheap summer holiday.
It recommended booking last-minute deals towards the end of the summer, as holidaymakers are more likely to be able to find cheap flights and accommodation at this time.
