Anyone travelling to Thailand next week will land in the midst of one of the country’s biggest festivals.

People who have booked flights to Bangkok next week will arrive during the Songkran festival.

This annual event marks the beginning of the Buddhist New Year, but is accompanied by plenty of fun for travellers as well as locals.

A giant water fight marks the celebrations, with everyone reaching for their water pistols and buckets to soak all those wandering around on the streets.

This year, the festivities will begin on April 10th and run until April 15th, anyone who is visiting Bangkok will find that much of the action centres around the backpacker hub of Khao San Road.

Many tourists find that getting drenched is a welcome relief from the heat of the city, with April one of the hottest times of year in Thailand.

It does not matter where you are in Thailand, the festival is celebrated all over the country, with cultural performances on offer as well as the water fights.
