Those about to jet off on their cheap holidays to Thailand may be pleased to learn that efforts to clean up illegal vendors and tour guides around Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi airport are proving to be successful.

Overall, 750 unlicensed taxi and limousine drivers have been arrested by a specially-devised security team in the space of one month, reports the Bangkok Post.

A further 405 illegal tour guides were also caught by the authorities, it added.

This could mean that Brits on cheap holidays in Thailand passing through the hub could find it a safer place to be.

Director of the airport Thiranartsin Niran told the newspaper that the situation remains serious and a further 50 video cameras are to be installed in the near future.

The airport’s intentions to clamp down on bogus tour guides and taxi drivers was first revealed in July, when an increase in complaints around activities at Suvarnabhumi airport was registered.
