South Africa is prepared to host the World Cup next month, according to a panel of experts.
A group of experts have confirmed that South Africa is ready to host the World Cup, which kicks off on June 11th.
Speaking at the 2010 Global Media Face Off press conference in Durban, the panel agreed that the nation is prepared for the tournament, confirming its “technical, infrastructural and emotional readiness”.
The comments could be of interest to football fans who have booked flights to South Africa to allow them to support their home team.
FIFA general secretary Jerome Valcke explained that football’s world governing body had learnt from the process of organising the first World Cup to be held in Africa.
One of the biggest issues was ticketing, as many South Africans were unable to access the modern technology now used for ticket sales.
He noted that these issues had been resolved, stating “the stadiums will be at least 95 per cent full for the games next month”.
England fans jetting off on flights to South Africa for the competition will no doubt be heading for Rustenburg for the team’s first match against the USA on June 12th.
