The HMS Beagle is undertaking a commemorative journey to follow the route taken by Charles Darwin and is due to arrive in Cape Town this weekend.
Anyone arriving on flights to Cape Town this weekend may be able to catch a glimpse of the HMS Beagle, which has followed the route Charles Darwin took around the world as part of a documentary series.
The ship is due to arrive in Cape Town on April 25th where it completes its journey.
It has already stopped off in places such as Spain, Brazil, the UK, Australia, Peru and Tahiti, charting the development of Darwin’s theory of evolution.
People already on their holidays to South Africa may want to head down to the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront between 16:00 and 18:00 (local time) to watch the ship sail into the dock.
The series has been produced to mark the 200th anniversary of Darwin’s birth and the 150th anniversary of the publication of his book Origin of Species.
His groundbreaking study explores the theory of evolution through natural selection and continues to be the subject of much debate.
