Travellers taking a holiday in South Africa may wish to attend the “showcase of racing and fashion” – Vodacom Durban July.

The race has taken place since 1897 and according to Zulu Tourism, it is the “Blue Riband of the South African Turf”.

In the centre of the pear-shaped track is the Royal Durban Golf Club and spectators come to watch the 2.2 kilometre main event as well as the last four races which are held under floodlights.

A 1.6 kilometre Garden Province Stakes, a three-kilometre Gold Vase and a 1.4 kilometre Golden Horseshoe and Golden Slipper are also held.

Durban, located near to the warm Indian Ocean, is a popular destination year round for water sports, including scuba diving, body boarding, surfing and sailing, according to SA-Venues.com.
