Singapore airlines, Virgin Atlantic and Air France have all scored highly in a poll to discover the world’s best airlines as voted for by passengers.

The survey, carried out by online community website Tripadvisor, found that these carriers were popular due to their customer service, while no-frills airlines did not score so well.

It also revealed some interesting insights as to what the British public want when they choose to travel by air.

For the majority of people, it was a quiet ride, with 77 per cent saying they think families with young children should be given their own section of the plane to avoid disturbing other pasengers, Holiday Extras reports.

Meanwhile, 90 per cent said they would not be in support of proposed plans to allow mobile phone calls to be made on planes.

However, in what is likely to be good news for the travel industry, 56 per cent also said they will spend more on travelling for pleasure next year than they have in the past 12 months.

Earlier this month, it was reported that Virgin Atlantic is to increase its entertainment offerings following an agreement with NME magazine.
