People taking cheap holidays in Dubai will be able to explore the region much more conveniently with the opening of its brand new metro system, one industry figure has suggested.

The new metro system unveiled this week in Dubai will serve to open the eyes of those taking holidays in the region, it has been claimed.

In the opinion of Ian Scott, director of the Dubai department of tourism and commerce marketing in the UK, people touching down in the area will be able to enjoy much better access to it in future because of the metro.

He pointed out that some areas would only have been reachable previously in a taxi, which can be expensive.

Now, however, the subway will “encourage people to visit [alternative] parts of town” and will see holidaymakers “jump on and go to parts where previously they may not have done”.

The metro system’s Red Line features 29 stops and serves major tourist hubs such as terminal three of Dubai International Airport, the Financial Centre and the Mall of the Emirates.
