Mumbai airport saw a strong increase in passengers during July 2011.
Taking flights to Mumbai could be an increasingly popular route for people heading to India as the city’s airport has released statistics showing a rise in passenger numbers.
The terminal saw a 10.6 per cent increase in the number of passengers who visited during the month of July, with more than 2.5 million people passing through, the Centre for Aviation reported.
Breaking down the numbers, it was found that 1.6 million of these were domestic travellers, which constituted a 13.5 per cent rise in numbers.
International numbers rose by 5.2 per cent to a total of 822,000 visitors.
Aircraft movements also saw a rise, with an increase of 6.2 per cent, reaching a level of 15,000 for domestic travel during the four-week period.
Those on flights to Mumbai were recently advised that the airport has introduced new security measures, with X-ray systems and hand-held metal detectors being used at security check points.
