Travellers can take a new tour behind the scenes of Mumbai’s slums.

Tourists who arrive on flights to Mumbai may be interested in getting under the skin of the city and its culture.For those who are particularly interested in how the locals live, a new tour of the slums could be a good way to gain an insight into their society.

The India Travel Centre has teamed up with Leela Palaces, Hotels and Resorts to offer holidaymakers a new way to experience the city.

Rajeev Olickel, director of operations at the India Travel Centre, explained: “We have designed a tour that showcases Mumbai in its true essence, giving travellers a complete mix of real Mumbai experiences and an insight into the real lives of the people.”

Among the stops on the tour are a visit to a slum where tourists can see how businesses in the area are run, as well as a trip to Mumbai’s railway and various markets.

Travellers may also want to see some of the city’s best-known sights, including the former residence of Mahatma Gandi and the Hanging Gardens, which can be found at the top of the Malabar Hills.
