Emirates reveals plan to develop new engine shop in Dubai.
Emirates Airline has announced plans to develop an engine repair and overhaul facility in Dubai.
If the plans go ahead it would be the most technologically advanced engine overhaul shop in all of Asia.
The new high-tech engine shop will cost of £75 million and cover 90,000 square metres of land.
The growth of the Emirates fleets has made it necessary for an in-house engine shop to be built in Dubai.
His Highness Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum said that the establishment of the engine shop would be of a huge benefit to the local economy.
He said: “The Engine Shop will create over 500 new job opportunities, with a large percentage of these to be occupied by UAE nationals.”
It is expected that the engine shop at full capacity will be able to perform 300 engine repairs annually for the GE90 and GP7000 engines fitted to B777 and A380 aircraft.
Construction is set to begin in the first quarter of 2012.
