Emirates Airlines – which offers flights to Dubai among other destinations – has won two coveted industry awards.

The carrier scooped gongs for Best Inflight Entertainment and Best Regional Airline for the Middle East and Africa at the World Airline Entertainment Associations Aviation Awards in California, it has been reported.

Over 55,000 passengers were polled by industry body Skytrax in order to come up with the results, which also saw Singapore Airlines win second place in the entertainment category.

Mike Simon, Emirates spokesperson, said: “We are pleased the industry and our customers have recognised our efforts to provide them with the best possible inflight entertainment.”

Earlier this month, it was reported that passengers on Emirates flights to Australia, South Africa, the Far East and the Indian Ocean may benefit from reduced ticket prices after the airline announced reductions.

It said fares could reduce by as much as 20 per cent after the price of oil dropped by $140 (£70) a barrel, the Travel Trade Gazette attested.
