Travellers planning to attend the Abu Dhabi art fair during their trip could find the occasion is getting better every year.

Holidaymakers taking flights to Abu Dhabi could decide to attend this year’s art fair, as the event was noted to be going from strength to strength.

This year, 50 galleries are set to take part and display the works from both local and international artists.

While some of the galleries will host works by household names, the smaller spaces could offer visitors the perfect opportunity to learn about emerging artistic talent.

Speaking to the National, Salwa Zeidan, who runs her own gallery, said that she wants to use the fair as a way of promoting Emirati talent.

“In the beginning I just wanted to sell but now I want to have more of a presence,” she told the newspaper.

Fans of the arts who are taking flights to Abu Dhabi later in the year could also be interested in attending a gig by Coldplay, who are performing at a new year’s concert to mark the start of the Volvo Ocean Race 2011/2012.
