Perth is in need of hundreds of new hotel rooms every year in order to keep up with customer demand.

Travellers on flights to Perth could find there are a lot more hotels to choose from than before after the WA Tourism Council reported it was in need of more accommodation.

Perth has seen a strong increase in holidaymakers and the body reported that the city would need around 300 new hotel rooms each year simply to keep the current occupancy levels of 83.5 per cent, the West Australian reported.

Tourism Council chief executive Evan Hall said that the current planning rules which are in place are preventing these new builds from going ahead.

“That still remains a fundamental barrier to short-stay accommodation development in the city where we clearly have a massive problem,” Mr Hall explained.

People on flights to Perth in October may see a very famous visitor in the city, as the Queen is set to make a stop there during a short tour of Australia towards the end of the month.
