This year will see crowds gather to mark the 40th anniversary of the fun run event.

People who have booked flights to Sydney later this year may find that they arrive in time to take part in the world’s biggest timed fun run.On August 8th thousands of people are expected to gather at Sydney’s Hyde Park to follow the City to Surf course which finishes at Bondi Beach. In 2009, more than 76,000 runners completed the 14km course and this year it is hoped that it will be even bigger.

Anyone who is feeling active enough to take part can choose to run in fancy dress if they want to really get into the spirit of the event.

This year the event will be particularly special as it marks the 40th anniversary of the charity fun run.

Participants will be placed in groups, with staggered starts to make sure that everyone has space to enjoy themselves.

There are even 39 people who have competed in every single City to Surf race to date and have now earned the title of City to Surf Legends.
