Those booking cheap flights to Australia and New Zealand feel that the destinations are safe places to visit, it has been claimed.
Booking cheap flights to Australia and New Zealand is something that gap year travellers do because they feel that the destinations are safe places to spend their time out travelling around.
This is the viewpoint of Marcus Watts, founder of GapForce, who believes that the Australasian countries are viewed as easy places to travel around by Brits as they are not drastically different from their homeland.
“Australia and New Zealand have always been key destinations – they speak English and are not so much culturally different from the UK,” he explained.
Mr Watts added that backpackers who head out to Australia and New Zealand ask far fewer questions and have less to prepare for than those going to destinations such as South America and Africa.
According to the opinion of Andrew Hamilton, head of marketing for the International Currency Exchange, the number of travellers taking a gap year due to the currently tight jobs market in the UK is “set to increase significantly in 2009”.
