The best restaurant in Auckland has been named at an awards ceremony.

The best restaurant in Auckland has been named, with the judges stating it had changed the face of dining in the city.

The  Depot Eatery & Oyster Bar was given the supreme award at the  Metro/Audi Restaurant of the Year Awards 2012 in the New Zealand city.

It was a night of big success for the restaurant run by Wellington-born chef Al Brown, as well as picking up the top prize it was also named as the best new restaurant and the best casual bistro.

Mr Brown was himself given an award in recognition of his achievements, as he was given the prize for Audi progressive restaurateur of the year.

Awards judge and Metro magazine editor Simon Wilson said: “The New Zealand-ness of his menu contrasts sharply with many other restaurants and that’s a great thing.”

The restaurant is situated in Skycity and opens from 07:00 local time each day for coffee and breakfast, with meals served through to the late evening.
