European airliner Lufthansa has been voted best in Europe in a poll of over 15 million passengers, it has been reported.

Lufthansa beat 59 other carriers to the accolade, which was awarded by Skytrax based on research carried out between August 2007 to June 2008, reports Travel Video.

Aspects including onboard staff service, ground service and onboard products were all assessed.

Lufthansa came top thanks to its “fast and innovative” check-in services, its baggage handling and its friendly staff.

It was also voted that the carrier was excellent in terms of inflight entertainment and onboard menus.

Lufthansa is the largest airline in Europe in terms of overall passengers carried, with the second being Air France.

The airline is also fifth-largest worldwide, operating services to 209 locations in 81 countries. It operates more than 500 aircraft and employs 105,261 people worldwide.
