According to moneysupermarket.com, those who get involved with others, whether through holiday flings or friendships, are now at risk of being contacted again via social networking sites whether they want to be or not.
This has happened to one-fifth of holidaymakers, resulting in many people now giving false names or details to those they meet abroad in order to avoid being checked up on back home.
Travel expert at moneysupermarket.com Bob Atkinson said it is no longer the case that, to paraphrase the popular stag party phrase, what goes on tour stays on tour.
“With the cultural shift towards digital communication, it’s no surprise that people are looking to reconnect with holiday friends or romances.
“It’s imperative that travellers are cautious when handing over their personal details to strangers or they can expect unwelcome advances,” he warned.
However, on the other hand, the same firm previously found that almost one in ten marry their holiday romance in the end.
