A female race car driver has been named as one of the test drivers at the Abu Dhabi Formula 1.
Female race car driver Maria de Villota is set to kick off a season of working as a test car driver for Marussia at the Abu Dhabi Formula 1 world championships.
The daughter of 1980s driver Emilio de Villota, it is likely that she will feature at the end-of-season young driver test in Abu Dhabi.
Although it is unlikely that de Villota will have a chance to join a starting line-up any time soon, she has said she is looking forward to taking part in the tests.
“This is a fantastic opportunity to work closely with a Formula 1 team and gain important experience to help me progress my career, including the chance to drive the new car later in the year at the Abu Dhabi test,” de Villota said.
The race in Abu Dhabi is one of the last of the Formula 1 season and will not take place in the emirate until November 11th.
