Brits jetting off abroad for holidays places such as Dubai, India or Australia are not making the most of their spending money, it has been reported.

According to a study by FairFX.com, some 69 per cent of people claimed that every penny counts when it comes to exchanging their pounds for foreign currency.

However, the research also showed that despite high fees on foreign purchases on credit cards, people were still spending on plastic and choosing to withdraw money from a hole in the wall when in resort.

“Many of us might intend to look for the best deals, but when it comes to the crunch people aren’t making the effort to get the best bang for their buck,” said Stephen Heath, chief executive at the company.

He went on to say that by using a pre-paid card for holiday spending, travellers may find they can save themselves a significant amount of money.

If travellers are flying to Australia in July, they may wish to catch the camel races at the Imparja Camel Cup in Alice Springs.
