The south Asian country of Thailand and the Emirates city of Dubai have both been recommended in a list of 15 winter break destinations compiled by a travel writer.

Writing for the Mirror, Gill Williams said that holidays to Dubai could be ideal for Brits at this time of year.

She particularly recommends visiting the Dubai Mall, which opens this week.

“Now’s the time to combine a warm winter break with a bit of shopping,” Ms Williams states.

Meanwhile, she also suggests holidays to Thailand, with travel recommended before Christmas in order for holidaymakers to take advantage of the best prices.

“Resorts like the three-star Holiday Inn Resort Cha Am are cutting prices by about a fifth if you can travel in early December,” the expert said.

According to the Tourism Authority of Thailand, 835,000 people from the UK visited Thailand last year.

Meanwhile, Dubai aims to attract 15 million visitors by 2015.
