The North Stradbroke Island, or Straddie as locals call it, is an island located offshore Brisbane in the Moreton Bay in Queensland, Australia. A perfect beach destination, the island is an ideal combination of white sandy beaches, spectacular whale watching sites and wonderful lakes.

Beaches

The Stradbroke Island has some of the most beautiful white sand beaches in the world. The white sand stretches for miles and miles and because it’s not much crowded, travellers can easily find a place to just sit back and relax.

Lakes

Beach Destination in Queensland

The beach island is home to around 100 lakes of various shapes and sizes. However, two popular tourist attractions are the Blue Lake and the Brown Lake. The Blue Lake is of cultural importance to local people and is also a subject of many environmental studies as the spring-fed lake has remained untouched for thousands of years. It means that the water in the lake has not been affected by climate change. The Brown Lake again is of cultural importance to the local people. The Brown Lake preserves its water owing to a thick layer of leaves acting as an impermeable layer of the lake floor. The lake is tea-coloured due to tannin that keeps falling into the lake from the surrounding tea trees.

Water Sports

There is a lot of scope for water sport lovers to engage in some fun sports at this pristine island. Travellers can enjoy assisted scuba diving into the lovely warm waters of the beaches and its beautiful waves allow exciting water surfing opportunities. Bay kayaking, under qualified instructors, is also a popular sport. The lovely sand dunes of all types, gentle slope or steep slope, make for a perfect opportunity for sand boarding. The ocean also provides a wonderful prospect for deep sea fishing for visitors who can avail fishing carters for this experience. Travellers can also join various 4-wheeler safaris available at the beaches.

Whale Watching

The island is famous for offering some terrific land-based Whale Watching opportunities. Choose from among the many whale watching spots on the island and marvel at the thousands of Humpback Whales, dolphins, turtles, Eagle and Manta rays. See nature’s beautiful creations in surreal backdrop and enjoy a wonderful holiday at the North Stradbroke Island.
