As the Easter holidays approach, families have revealed the extent they go to in order to keep their children entertained on holidays to Australia and other hotspots.

Some 19 per cent of parents admitted in a poll carried out by TripAdvisor that they find travelling with children tough, with 13 per cent saying that keeping them entertained is the biggest challenge.

Another eight per cent said finding suitable snacks to last the journey is a bit of a headache, while 11 per cent resorted to offering new toys in a bid to keep the peace.

Luke Fredberg, spokesperson for the online travel community, said: “Family holidays can be far from stress-free and often draw more parallels to scenes from the Simpsons than the Waltons.”

However, it wasn’t just the kids causing trouble – 51 per cent said that when it comes to travel, they think their partner is as hard to please as their offspring.

Family holidays may be on the increase after Chartered Management Institute research found that the average holiday entitlement for British managers is now 28 days, up from 25 last year.
