Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

The birthplace of America, Philadelphia is where the Independence Day celebrations are the most extraordinary. The fireworks and the floats, the food and the fun accompany the parade which is believed to bring the entire city together. Like every year, this year too Benjamin Franklin Parkway will host the largest Independence Day event called Wawa Welcome America from June 29 to July 4th. The event will culminate with a concert and fireworks at the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

Washington DC

The whole of America looks up to Washington DC to put up a spectacular Independence Day show, and the capital never disappoints. The annual National Independence Day Parade is held at the Constitution Avenue followed by a star-studded musical concert – A Capitol Fourth – by the National Symphony Orchestra. The climax of the celebrations is a spectacular show of fireworks over the National Mall. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Smithsonian Folklife Festival which means you can be a part of the free event to be held in the National Mall, featuring food, concerts, dance and music.

New York City

The sky will light up with fireworks and the air will be filled with the music of West Point Band and Glee Club this year as New York indulges in the celebration of Independence Day. Being organised by Macy’s for the 41st time, the visual treat emanating over the East river can be had from parts of Manhattan, Queens and Brooklyn. The 25-minute long event will also be broadcasted by NBC for those who are too lazy to get out of their homes.

San Diego

With large military operations centred here, San Diego enjoys the status of being one of the most patriotic cities in the country. The celebrations are at their best in downtown San Diego; the highlight being the annual Big Bay Boom event. From 9pm onward, the biggest firework show in San Diego starts from barges around the bay. Some of the excellent locations for witnessing fireworks in San Diego are the Pacific Beach, Mission Beach, Harbor Island, and Shelter Island. You can also get aboard the Hornblower Cruise Line’s special 4th of July Fireworks Dinner Cruise that offers amazing views of the downtown San Diego and the night’s sky illuminating the sky.

California

California is big on the celebration of the Independence Day. The popular Lights on the Lake event features one of the best firework shows not just in California but the whole of America. The America Fest in Pasadena is another popular July 4th event in California that sees a huge participation. Held in the Rose Bowl Stadium, the event has food festivals, rides for kids, stunt shows, crafts and music for the entertainment of the spectators. It culminates with fireworks.

Key West, Florida

The celebrations take a different colour in Florida’s little island, Key West. The island initiates the celebrations by participating in a five-kilometre run. This is followed by an Annual Harbour Walk Bar Crawl. There’s also an annual picnic event for those interested. The festivities culminate with fireworks, like the rest of the country.
