The Irish Consumer Travel Awards, created by the Irish Times, saw consumers vote for their favourite countries, airlines and hotels for the first time, with the final winners to be announced at a gala dinner on April 21st.

Among the potential candidates were Thailand, Australia, New Zealand, Florida and New York.

The Irish Times said: “Thousands of votes were registered during the voting period.”

Reporter Justine Ragany said that she found the south Asian country especially accommodating for her 15-month-old baby and discovered that he became the centre of attention among Thai people wherever the family went.
