Long distance flights can be better value for money per mile, new research claims.

Brits looking for a great value holiday shouldn’t be put off long-distance travel, as some long-haul destinations can be very affordable, it has been claimed.

Research released today (May 19th) by Kelkoo Travel shows that short-haul flights are 75 per cent more expensive per mile than long-haul journeys, such as flights to Thailand.

Furthermore, thrifty travellers should consider the cost of living in their destination, as the south east Asian country can be much more affordable to stay in than some popular parts of Europe.

Chris Nixon, managing director at Kelkoo Travel, said: “Venturing further afield to places such as Thailand not only provides better value for money in terms of the flight, but the cost of accommodation, food and leisure activities is generally lower.”

The company’s research estimates that the average short-haul journey costs British travellers 25.3 pence per nautical mile, as opposed to just 14.5 pence for long-haul flights.
