Anyone lucky enough to have a rather large chunk of disposable income could opt for a holiday to Thailand to have what might just be the world’s most expensive restaurant meal.

The Lebua Hotel in Bangkok is to hold a charity event next year in which film stars will prepare a luxury meal for selected guests.

However, the meal will cost a cool $1 million (£632,000), Reuters reports.

Deepak Ohri, the hotel’s chief executive, said all proceeds will go to charity and that six people have already signed up as guests. The film stars have also been lined up, although Mr Ohri would not reveal their identities.

Commenting on the appeal of the event, he said: “It’s about the company you’re eating with, who’s cooking. For these kinds of experiences you pay a price, and you’re satisfied because the money goes to good causes.”

People who feel the price of the meal is a little beyond them could always walk past the hotel to see if they can catch a glimpse of the stars – then carry on to one of Bangkok’s more affordable eateries to enjoy shrimp soup or green curry.
