A holiday to South Africa provided David Essex with an interesting travel tale, he has revealed.

Singer David Essex recently revealed that he had an unusual experience while travelling in South Africa.

In an interview with the Daily Telegraph, he told of how two monkeys jumped on his motorbike while he was driving around the Cape with a friend.

Mr Essex said that, after “manically trying to get them off”, the pair of them just stopped and laughed at the situation.

He went on to say that he enjoys taking holidays “off the beaten track” that take him to “culturally different” places.

People who have booked flights to South Africa this summer may be considering following the example of Mr Essex and taking a bike ride into some of the country’s less-developed tourist areas to avoid the World Cup.

The vocalist also suggested that travelling alone can be a “refreshing feeling”.

David Essex fans will be able to see him treading the boards at the Garrick Theatre in London from April 28th, where he will be starring in All the Fun of the Fair.

He has released 12 albums throughout his career and appeared in numerous theatre productions, including Godspell.
