Cape Town is fast becoming a hub of art activity.

Cape Town is already one of South Africa’s most popular tourist destinations.

People travel from all over the world to see the majestic Table Mountain, the iconic Robben Island and the various world-class sporting venues such as Newlands Cricket Ground.

Yet, the Mother City is also carving itself out a reputation as a major arts hub and new plans are abound to make the City Hall the centre of the movement.

The venue will be promoted as a space for the creative industries and the Cape Argus reported that a R20 million ($1.5 million) budget has been earmarked to upgrade the City Hall over the next three years.

Between January and September this year, more than 70 events were held at the City Hall and another 40 are planned for the rest of the year.

Cape Town already has a number of great art hubs including the Goodman Gallery, the Cape Gallery and the Iziko Museum.
