More people are choosing holidays to India in order to benefit from a luxury spa break, it seems.

Figures from spa chains in the south Asian country show that visitor numbers are shooting up as people seek to get away from the worries of the recession at home and take a well-earned break in which they can indulge in massages and a Jacuzzi.

One chain, which has a number of branches in India and Thailand, said it had seen bookings increase by 70 per cent in the past year, Travel Counsellors reports.

It is thought that tourism in India could rise by five per cent this year thanks to the increased interest in luxury spas.

Getting to spas in Thailand could also be easier thanks to new services introduced recently by Thai Airways.

Thai Airways was recently named Best Airline in Southeast Asia by Global Traveller at its recent award ceremony.
