Travellers in India have been advised to make sure a trip to Goa is on their itinerary.

Taking a trip to Goa has been highlighted as an essential part of any holiday to India by the readers of Trip Advisor.

Offering their views on the top places to see in the country as part of the Travellers’ Choice 2012 awards, the coastal location was named as the best place to see in the whole of the vast country.

Suggesting reasons why Goa performed so well, the travel website stated that one of its main attractions is its stunning beaches, which visitors will often have difficulty choosing between.

“You might see dolphins playing just offshore or find yourself in complete solitude on the beautiful white sands,” the site stated.

If spending all day on the beach does not appeal to you, there are a host of other sites to see in Goa.

The Old Goa part of the town offers a glimpse into the region’s past as a colonial Portuguese port and the Basilica of Bom Jesus is a stunning work of architecture.
