Goa beaches to get toilets and showers

The gorgeous sandy beaches of the west Indian state of Goa are about to get a modern makeover to make them more tourist friendly.

While there is certainly no lack of beauty on offer along the coast of Goa, when it comes to beachside facilities, this is currently a different matter.

However, as the New York Daily News reports, tourism minister Dileep Parulekar is planning to bring a host of conveniences to the beaches in order to enhance enjoyment for tourists.

There will be freshwater showers for those who have been for a swim, designated parking areas, toilets and high mast lights at night.

He also said a 50-metre watch tower for the popular Baga beach in north Goa is also being considered in order to improve safety.

“The most important requirement is creating very practical facilities for tourists on the beaches,” Mr Parulekar said.

“They need to change clothes when they go for a swim. We are trying to bring in changing rooms for them on the beaches.”
